Papers, 1822-1872.

The papers consist of about 110 items, primarily correspondence between Mrs. Crofton and her husband and her mother. The most interesting portions cover the years 1864-1872 and include letters written from army posts in the Dakota Territory, where her husband was stationed, giving details of life, references to Indians, and a good picture of Army days on the frontier. Also included are an autograph album of her daughter, Julia du Pont Crofton, scrapbooks of news items and poetry, and a volume containing copies of poems originally owned by her mother and dated 1822.
